Lorries needed

Nuneaton Carnival is issuing an appeal for help. More Lorries are needed to be included in the Procession in one of the towns biggest events!

This year’s Carnival will be taking place on Sunday 8th June and this year’s theme 'Pack Up and Your Troubles... And Smile' in commemoration of the centenary anniversary of the start of World War 1 has resonated with a large number of local community groups wanting to be involved.

Procession  Manager Martin Hobbins has confirmed that the Committee is looking for lorries, specifically 7.5 ton curtain-siders if possible as these do not have the same restrictions for drivers or other unique ways to transport those looking to be involved around the 3 mile route, anybody who can help should contact Martin Hobbins on 07932 702706  or email: martincarnival67@gmail.com.

The route will be reverting to 2 stops as seen in previous years, at St Nicolas Church on Attleborough Rd and on Vicarage Rd.
Mr. Hobbins has confirmed that 3 bands 1st Ibstock Scout Group Band, Spirit of Coventry Drum Corps and Army cadet band have already been lined up to ensure the route is as musical as ever.

On Carnival Day you will be able to see the new Senior Carnival Court;
Queen Emmi Burton as well as her princesses Tanya Alcock and Rosemary Russell

and for the first time ever the new Junior Court;
Queen Evie Philpott and her princesses Mia Reynolds and Jaycee Snow,

Who are currently preparing for the day and having their dresses fitted by local business Full length and Fabulous.

Nuneaton Carnival Bands 2014

Nuneaton Carnival has prepared for this year to be bigger than ever. From last year we have two more marching bands.

The final ingredient is now YOU!

We have spaces available for you to either walk or be on a float. You are the people that make the carnival happen, so get involved!

The bands that we have are:

1st Ibstock scout group - All linked with scouting and have done a great job at getting a mixture of young people to work as a team. It is through the hard work and dedication they have managed to perform for the Queen and won several awards, a true honour to have them liven up our carnival day.

Spirit of Coventry – From just over the boarder of the M6, the American style marching band allows anyone to join from the age of 7. They give a real community feel to any event ... that is why we booked them.

The Army Cadet band are also playing.

The Nuneaton Carnival takes place on the 8th June 2014; the procession begins at One O’clock on Avenue Road, near the Pingles Leisure Centre going through the centre of Nuneaton.

April fool

It is our family friendly mascot Luther the Lion that will lead the procession.

No wild or tame lions will be in the procession.

Still time to enter into the procession - contact Martin for more info

Live lion to lead Nuneaton Carnival

Nuneaton Carnival committee have managed to make an arrangement to loan a lion to walk the route on Sunday 8th June 2014.

Extra security has been brought in over the lion being along the 2.75 mile route. The bands have been moved to the second half of the procession and the carnival queen float brought forward. The trained Gurkhas will protect the Queen and princesses from the crowds being prepared for any lion mishaps.

The roaring start to the carnival is set to bring in crowds from all over the town. This will be the first attempted walk of a lion through Nuneaton town centre. The lion is set to be guided by only a wooden stick and the pack relationship. We do ask as usual that no coins are thrown as not only will this cause injury to contestants in the procession. It could also mean you may end up being a bit closer to the teeth of the animal that you might like.

The lion will be escorted by its trainer along the route, even allowing to be petted at the two stops. This will be at St Nicholas church and the Ropewalk car park entrance. Very limited spaces for a few select members of the community to be able to stroke the lion.

We do hope you are very excited about this first for Nuneaton Carnival.

Promotion and publicity volunteer wanted

Nuneaton Carnival is looking for someone to help with promotion and publicity.

If you want to try your hand at writing articles for the carnival. This will involve inviting people to join in with the carnival be it procession, gala field, queen competition and anything the carnival gets involved with. You will have the opportunity to have your words published as well as through here and the website (when revamped)

As well as articles, we would like assistance with writing the words for our new website and programme.

The role will be fully voluntary, with all words kept for carnival history. You must be available to start immediately as the programme is to be completed by the end of April!

Tuesday 11 March 2014

Graphic Design person

Nuneaton Carnival is looking for someone to help with graphic design.
This will range from simple posters for events to the carnival programme.

If you are interested in the voluntary position, please get in touch as we have started putting the programme together - with no front page, we have no posters to advertise and no true theme for the community to follow. Here are the previous years http://nuncarnival.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/2014programme.html

I assume the position would not take up too much time with the main jobs being the programme cover, that is the poster to go up around Nuneaton and the Carnival Queen selection night that has just been held.

If you think you know someone who can help with this - why not direct them here or pass on the details.
